  4. June 8 -- LaserBoard™, the 1000-member Macintosh user group of New York
  5. City, is pleased to announce its expansion into the Pennsylvania, Ohio,
  6. and West Virginia tri-state region. Since early 1986, LaserBoard has been
  7. based in Manhattan and has grown from a one-line bulletin board system
  8. into one of the largest Macintosh user groups in the country.

  10. The well known LaserBoard Bulletin Board System, with 140MB of shareware
  11. and freeware file storage capability and 9600 bps access via a USR
  12. Courier HST, has been duplicated and will be run simultaneously in New
  13. York and Pittsburgh. The new access number in New York is 212-397-0729,
  14. and will be available starting June 10. The new access number in
  15. Pittsburgh is 412-521-8646, and will be available starting June 14. Both
  16. services are running the newest version of Scott Watson's Red Ryder Host
  17. and offer message threading, 1K Block XMODEM file transfers, 9600 baud
  18. access, and thirty minutes of free access per day.

  20. LaserBoard will continue to have $18 annual dues, a low cost obtained
  21. through the use of completely electronic methods of information
  22. distribution. "LaserBoard is one of the only Mac user groups in the
  23. country without a printed newsletter," said chairman Stuart Gitlow, MD.
  24. "Not only can we provide information to our members more rapidly by
  25. electronic means, but the mailing and printing costs that we save have
  26. enabled us to keep dues to a minimum," he added.

  28. LaserBoard, a member of the Apple User Group connection, offers its
  29. members discounts on AppleCare via local dealers, system software
  30. upgrades via both electronic and disk-based methods, a powerful disk
  31. library available to members at $4 for each 800K disk, free shipping from
  32. MacConnection, and discounts on major Macintosh magazines. LaserBoard
  33. also provides a folder for the use of its members on the Connect network,
  34. accessible via MacNET software.
